Business In America

Have you ever experienced difficulty communicating with a business?
If I only would have had the Internet in 1989 when I was a High School Senior at Del Mar High School in San Jose, California but sadly for my generation the Internet was only in the development stages in 1989, and this caused all kinds of problems trying to communicate with a business group.
The phone was around and fax machines were getting more advanced in 1989 over 21 years ago but for the most part all kinds of problems did arise because my generation was not raised with the Internet and e-mail.
Most types of business meetings when I was a Senior at UC Berkeley in 1993 were face to face business meetings because in 1993 even at UC Berkeley the internet had not exploded yet as the world-wide standard of communication that it is now.
I have never had a problem communicating with a business ever since the internet came out because now with the phone and the fax and the internet it is simple to contact a firm and send key documents to them or your resume.

Would social media have made it easier to get noticed or get your problem solved?
Like I stated above ever since the internet has taken over as the world-wide standard as a communication device I have never had a problem with trying to contact a business that I wanted to try and do business with but as far as getting the business that is sadly not always fun because of all the laws and regulations and imports that are in America but that topic I will save for another blog.

If not, have you ever had a positive experience communicating with  a business through social media?
When I was in Iraq on about the 28th of July 2006 over 7 years ago I did contact a company named Ariat that sells country and western gear and boots and I explained to them that I was on a US ARMY deployment and they were nice enough to send me a few shirts and a nice jacket because they have respect for American Veterans.

  1. I'm glad to hear that you did have a positive experience. I'm also glad to hear that some organizations still care for our men and women in the military. It's sad but I feel like i was born in the wrong time period. I was taught manors, yes sire no ma'am and what not. Today people are in such a hurry that they can't even show the simplest courtesy's anymore.

  2. I enjoy reading your narratives on the evolution of business communication in the past 20 or 30 years. I am a contemporary of you, witnessing the same transition from analog device such as fax and phone to digital media. I also feel the same about the onurous burden that numerous and adversarial laws and regulations exert on the small business, which is finding it increasingly difficult to survive in the current business and economically environment.
